Unlike most small batch crafts, halter making is unique. Every leather strap is cut from hand selected hides and then the individual parts are measured, cut and prepped for the stitcher (halter maker), once again by hand. Hand rubbed edges and a finishing dip in our special oil blend, and the halters are ready for years of robust service.
Halter parts are stitched on Campbell Harness machines that are built like tanks, weigh close to 300 pounds and have no less than 5 flywheels. There 1904 patent date makes them antiques - that have yet to be surpassed (in our opinion) for halter production. We rebuild them as needed and have 5 in production in our workroom.
We are involved in a labor intensive craft that really does not lend to mass production. It makes very little sense to skimp on materials. Heavy domestic English Finished steer hides and solid brass hardware goes into all our Paris Kentucky made leather goods.
Our staff of 15 take pride in the almost 20,000 halters produced every year in our Main Street Shop. Every order is personally taken care of in-house. From local Thoroughbred, Sport and Pleasure horse farms to international customers - Extraordinary service and exceptional products have been a Quillin Tradition Since 1982.
